AGENT CARTER Close to Getting a Straight-to-Series Order from ABC

I’ve mostly written off Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. even though it appears the show has improved post-The Winter Soldier.  The characters—aside from Coulson—have never been that interesting to me.  However, I’m still excited for the prospect of a weekly Marvel TV series, and have high hopes for Agent Carter.  A sci-fi/action series set in the 1940s with a female lead (Hayley Atwell has expressed her interest in reprising the titular role, but it hasn’t been officially cast for the TV series) is drastically different than anything else on network television (or even cable for that matter), but ABC seems to have sparked to the idea.  According to Deadline, the network might go straight-to-series since the Marvel One-Shot of the same name functioned as an unconventional pilot.

Hit the jump for more on a possible Agent Carter TV series.

According to Deadline, Agent Carter could serve as a scheduling bridge between the fall and spring portions of S.H.I.E.L.D., which lines up with what Captain America screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely told Steve about envisioning the TV series as 13 episodes per season.  [13 episodes] is how this is envisioned, maybe even less… That’s my hope, is that it would be something like [Under the Dome],” said McFeely. “Our case would be that it would be a limited series and you would wrap up that one bad guy and that one case, and then if you like it we’ll do it again next year and it’s 1947.”

It’s worth noting that McFeely and Markus aren’t serving as the showrunners.  Right now, it looks like that job would belong to Reaper creators Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas.  I’m not familiar with their work, but again, I like the idea of an Agent Carter series, and I hope ABC decides to give it a shot.
