Collider Receives Mysterious Box from J.J. Abrams-produced Fox Series ALCATRAZ

     January 11, 2012

As you may or may not have seen, a number of outlets have been sent a mysterious metal box containing contents from the new Fox series Alcatraz.  Produced by J.J. Abrams, the hook of the show centers on the sudden appearance of a number of inmates from Alcatraz prison who mysteriously disappeared decades ago.  The contents of the metal case sent to Collider headquarters include a prison cell key, an Alcatraz tour book, a page from a magazine touting Dr. Diego Soto’s (Jorge Garcia) non-fiction book Inmates of Alcatraz, a newspaper clipping, and some postcards.  It’s pretty impressive stuff.  Hit the jump for more, including images of the box’s contents.

Certain letters on the magazine page are circled which, when put together, spell out “Legends of Alcatraz” ( redirects to a Fox page for now, but expect that to change). Curiously, one ripped newspaper piece states “The Most Exciting Thing on TV Tonight Will Be a Commercial,” and touts a look at a new Ford Mustang.  I’m assuming this means a car commercial for the 2013 Ford Mustang will run during the Alcatraz premiere and it might tie into the viral campaign.

You can sift through all the images below in order to get a jump on what’s sure to be a densely supernatural series. Alcatraz premieres with a two-hour episode on Monday, January 16th at 8/7c before assuming its regular timeslot at 9/8c on January 23rd.  In addition, our own Hunter Daniels is attending a press event at Alcatraz tonight in San Francisco, so look for his recap of the event soon.
