20th Century Fox has released a new Alien: Covenant image, and it features Katherine Waterston’s character, Daniels. We don’t know anything about the character other than she has short hair, and I’m curious if they’re trying to make another heroine in the mold of Ellen Ripley. That seemed to be the attempt with Noomi Rapace’s character in Prometheus, but audiences didn’t warm to that character, so now only Michael Fassbender’s David will be returning from Ridley Scott’s nonsensical prequel.

As we previously reported, Covenant will supposedly pick up 10 years after the events in Prometheus, and finds the crew of the colony ship Covenant headed for a remote planet, until they find a ‘paradise’ planet occupied solely by David, the survivor of the Prometheus expedition.  Anyone want to bet they find a whole hive of xenomorphs waiting for them?

It's also possible that Covenant could serve as a bridge film between Scott's movies and what director Neill Blomkamp is attempting with his Alien sequel, although his film looks to discard Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection in favor of a quasi-reboot that leaves Hicks and Newt alive alongside Ripley.  It will be interesting to see if and/or how Scott and Blomkamp plan on tying all of these sequels together into a new Alien universe.  I'm also curious to see if Scott is returning to the horror roots of the series with Alien: Covenant or if he's sticking with the more action-oriented direction he took with Prometheus (based on his concept art, it looks like Blomkamp wants his movie to be more in line with Aliens than Alien).

Check out the image of Daniels below. Alien Covenant opens August 4, 2017 and also stars Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup.
