Filming continues on Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, the sequel to Prometheus. Fans have seen a few snaps from the set, including Katherine Waterson channeling Ellen Ripley as Daniels, a new Xenomorph design, and the logo for the new pilot uniforms. Now, we’re rewarded with a familiar face.
The official Alien Anthology Twitter account released a behind-the-scenes photo from the set featuring the “creator,” Scott, and his “creation.” But a look at those in the backgrounds reveals Michael Fassbender’s return as the sneaky android David. When last we saw him, his decapitated head was joining Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw as they departed their discovered planet to find where the Engineers came from. Elizabeth won’t be returning for Covenant, but David seems to have made it in one piece.

According to the film’s official plot, Covenant sees the crew of a new colony ship (called “Covenant”) landing on what they believe to be a utopian planet. They’ll soon learn that it’s dark and full of terrors, but not before coming across the territory’s solo inhabitant. Yup, you guessed it. It’s David.
Earlier this year, Fassbender teased that there will be plenty of “aliens coming out of people,” in addition to “fantastic” sets. “You have this futuristic world where people are eating noodles, because that seems to be the cheaper food and something that will fill you up,” he said. “But it’s also something that harks back to the past. The weaving of those two things—past and future—together makes for an interesting world that we can aspire to, but also recognize something in it.”
The cast of Alien: Covenant, scheduled for release on August 4, 2017, includes Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Jussie Smolett, Amy Seimetz, Carmen Ejogo, Callie Hernandez, and Billy Crudup. Michael Green and Jack Paglen worked on the screenplay.
