Sony Pictures has released the first clip from writer/director Cameron Crowe’s new film Aloha. The movie stars Bradley Cooper as a defense contractor overseeing a weapons satellite launch from Hawaii who teams up with (and falls for) an Air Force pilot (Emma Stone) to scuttle a launch. Complicating matters is the fact that his ex-girlfriend, played by Rachel McAdams, is also in the mix.
This clip focuses on the past relationship between Cooper and McAdams, and the dialogue is classic Crowe. There’s a romanticism to the way he crafts conversations that wears its heart on its sleeve without becoming too overtly sappy. That’s certainly the case here, and while We Bought a Zoo was maybe a little too earnest for its own good, I’m optimistic that Aloha is a return to form for the guy that gave us Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire; that debut trailer was damn great. At the very least, it’ll be great to dip back into a Crowe-crafted world for a couple of hours as a break from the blockbuster onslaught.

Here’s the official synopsis for Aloha:
In Aloha, a celebrated military contractor (Bradley Cooper) returns to the site of his greatest career triumphs – the US Space program in Honolulu, Hawaii – and reconnects with a long-ago love (Rachel McAdams) while unexpectedly falling for the hard-charging Air Force watchdog (Emma Stone) assigned to him. From Academy Award®-winner Cameron Crowe, the writer-director behind such films as Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, Aloha also stars Bill Murray, John Krasinski, Danny McBride, and Alec Baldwin.
