A24 has released the trailer for writer/director Andrea Arnold’s (Fish Tank) road trip movie American Honey. The film stars Sasha Lane as an adolescent girl who runs away from a troubled home and joins up with a traveling sales crew who drive across the American Midwest. She finds a companion in a character played by Shia LaBeouf, with ennui, Americana, and danger flowing throughout.

American Honey had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and while critics were somewhat divided, it ended up taking home the Jury Prize. The trailer promises a rambling, albeit gorgeous road movie, and Arnold shot the film all over the country guerrilla style, resulting in the spontaneity you see here.

A24 is one of the most exciting studios around today, never shying away from divisive or challenging material with a youthful energy, and American Honey certainly fits that bill. Watch the trailer below. The film also stars Riley Keough and opens in theaters later this year.

Here’s the official synopsis for American Honey:

Star (Sasha Lane), an adolescent girl from a troubled home, runs away with a traveling sales crew who drive across the American Midwest selling subscriptions door to door. Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, one of whom is Jake (Shia LaBeouf), she soon gets into the group's lifestyle of hard-partying nights, law-bending days, and young love.
