We’ve got a pretty good sense of who’s coming back for the fourth season of American Horror Story and how they’ll fit into the narrative, but thanks to a brand new piece of cast art, we’ve got even more details to share.

It’s an image that shows Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Frances Conroy, Michael Chiklis, Jessica Lange and Evan Peters in all their freak show glory.  Hit the jump to check out the brand new American Horror Story: Freak Show poster and get a preview of their looks.  Patti LaBelle, John Carroll Lynch, Finn Wittrock and Emma Roberts are all MIA in this one, but hopefully we’ll get some promo art of their characters as well as we approach the show’s October 8th debut.

How’s this for a first look? Based on what we’ve got here, it seems as though American Horror Story: Freak Show will have absolutely no problem staying true to form, dishing out loads of eccentric characters and putting them in wildly bizarre and likely horrific situations.

As we told you a couple of weeks ago, we know that Bates is playing a woman named Ethel Darling and that she's Wendell del Tolito’s (Chiklis) ex-wife and Jimmy Darling’s (Peters) mother, but thanks to this poster, now we can confirm how she fits into the freak show, too.  She’s the bearded lady!  Plus, we’ve known that Wendell is the resident strongman, but it looks as though he passes that ability on to his son, too.

It was recently revealed that O’Hare’s character is a collector of freaks and Lange’s rival, but we’ve still got nothing on Conroy and Bassett.  We know Bassett’s Desiree Dupree is in a relationship with Wendell, but what about her ability?  Just to throw something out there, perhaps she’s a psychic medium.  And then Conroy’s looking all prim and proper on that platform, but I’m willing to bet there’s something sinister about her.  Anyone have any ideas?

And who caught that shadow in the background right behind Chiklis and between O’Hare and Bates?  That’s probably a nod to Lynch’s villain, the evil clown killer, Twisty.

And, as you might have noticed, #WirSindAlleFreaks is an odd hashtag to run with, but it does have meaning.  “Wir sind alle” actually means “we are all” in German, so it’d translate to, “We are all freaks,” which is cool and all, but giving viewers a hashtag that’s difficult to spell and say probably won’t help the promotional push.
