The fury over the Marc Webb-directed Spider-Man reboot seems to have been squelched for the past few months, and in the wake of that, we finally get a glimpse into how Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield, feels now that he is two weeks into shooting. The entire crew are on Christmas break for now, but shooting will commence shortly after.  Garfield says he has already tried on the Spidey suit and is working out for the role as well, though it seems they won’t be going for a beefy version of Spider-Man. Meanwhile, Emma Stone, who plays love interest Gwen Stacy, revealed that she might be keeping her new (natural) blonde do for a few years. So hit the jump for the full quotes and more.

The Guardian caught up with Garfield while he is on break and discussed a number of topics. Of course, the one’s we are mainly interested in pertain directly to the Spider-Man reboot. When asked if he had tried the suit on, he immediately acknowledged that he had, but when asked if he looked “cool” in it, he just gave a laugh. Jason Solomons followed up by asking if he just looked like a kid in his pajamas, and Garfield agreed with that spin a bit. However, he got more serious, saying:

“I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. I don't take it lightly and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next few months."

When asked if he would have to “beef up” for the role, because “Spider-Man needs some muscles,” Garfield gave a hearty laugh and said, “Strength! I think Spider-Man needs strength, but Peter Parker is still a teenager.” He added,

“That’s a very tender balance to figure out. It’s very specific what we're trying to achieve in terms of body type and the feeling of that. Rest assured, there's a lot of people who are helping me with it because I have no discipline in that respect. My father's a swimming coach and I kind of rebelled against that very, very early on so any form of physical discipline has to be really cracked with a really smart whip."

Therefore, while it is clear he is working out for the role, it doesn’t appear that they will be going for a ripped figure or anything of that nature. I doubt they will even get close to what Tobey Maguire looked like, so expect a lean, mean Spidey next year. With “strength!”

While all of this is directly involved with the current film, Emma Stone spoke with Jay Leno while on The Tonight Show and mentioned she might be keeping her blonde hair for a few years. "There’s a few Spider-Men, so I may have to keep it for a couple of years." Whoa. Big shock that Sony might be prepping a slew of Spidey films if the first finds success.

Of course, the main reason this is even news is the fact that Gwen Stacy, in the comics, had a bit of an accident that would likely keep her out of any future films if they followed that same path. The news that Stone would be sticking around for another film or two means she will have a different storyline, or perhaps just make a slight detour. Whatever route the storyline takes, I look forward to the film. Stone and Garfield star alongside Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Iffran Khan, Campbell Scott, Julianne Nicholson, and Annie Parisse. The 3D reboot is set for July 3, 2012. What do you think?
