With Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman now unleashed upon the world, the studio is looking forward to expanding their DC Cinematic Universe. Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman are scheduled to hit theaters next, but director Zack Snyder and company are prepping to start shooting The Justice League: Part One very soon. Guys, if you're listening, we have some tips for you on how to make your costumed crime-fighter team-up movie the best it could possibly be.

Nick Romano has put together a list of five animated movies from the DC Comics universe that Justice League could use as sources of inspiration. Not only do these selections from Warner Bros. Animation draw directly from the source material, they do it in a way that rewards new and old fans alike. The live-action films certainly have their own flavor, but the filmmakers could learn a lot from the already established animated universe.

Eli Roth Directs an Animated Trailer for 'Dark Souls III'

Let's change gears here and check out a truly unique bit of animation, one that comes courtesy of horror guru Eli Roth. Though this animated trailer has little to do with the mythology, gameplay, or even the aesthetic of the Dark Souls videogame series, it's Roth's take on the property nonetheless. The animated short, titled "The Witches", is brutally bloody and violent, so viewer discretion is advised.

New Full-Length ‘Final Fantasy’ CGI Movie to Serve as a Prequel to ‘Final Fantasy XV’

final-fantasy-xv-slice

In related news that crosses over between video games and animation, we got sight of a trailer for Square-Enix's new full-length CGI movie entitled Kingsglaive Final Fantasy. This is one of many tie-ins to their long-awaited video game "Final Fantasy XV." Others include a five-episode animated prequel series dubbed "Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV", a playable demo, and another game trailer that takes players on a very trippy road trip.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the film probably more than the video game at this point. It will feature the voices of Sean Bean, Lena Headey, and Aaron Paul and should be available later this year. Head here to check out the film's trailer and more from "Final Fantasy XV."

Here’s the official synopsis for Kingsglaive:

The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the hallowed Crystal, but the menacing empire of Niflheim will stop at nothing to make it theirs. War has raged between the two for as long as most can remember.

King Regis of Lucis commands an elite force of soldiers dubbed the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx Ulric and his fellow glaives stand before the crown city of Insomnia, fighting to stay the inexorable advance of Niflheim’s imperial army.

Before the overwhelming military might of the empire, King Regis can only salvage his kingdom by accepting anultimatum—he must cede all lands outside the crown city, and see his son, Prince Noctis, wed to Lady Lunafreya, the former princess of Tenebrae now captive of Niflheim.

As the war of wills rages, the machinations of Niflheim transform Insomnia into an awe-inspiring battleground, pulling Nyx into a struggle for the very survival of the kingdom.

'Archer' Season 7 Review

archer-season-7-slice

Our own Chris Cabin got a chance to check out FX's Archer just before its seventh season debut. In this season, Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) and his team, voiced by Amber NashChris Parnell, Judy Greer, Lucky Yates, and Jessica Walters, move to the West Coast to form a private investigation agency. Certain episodes in this seventh run for the animated action comedy include send-ups of such classics as Fletch and Sunset Blvd. to great effect. Chris found it to be consistently funny and balanced throughout, though it falls short of being of the show's best seasons.

Archer Season 7 airs on FX with a new episode every Thursday at 10 p.m. Click here to read Chris' review in full.

‘Nerdland’ Trailer Previews NSFW Animated Film Starring Paul Rudd and Patton Oswalt

We'll wrap things up this week with a little NSFW action thanks to a new R-rated animated film from director Chris Prynoski and writer Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en). As this first trailer for the audacious movie showed, Patton Oswalt and Paul Rudd voice a pair of best friends looking to make it big in Hollywood as a writer and actor, respectively. The plan is to become famous before their 30th birthdays; the result is something very different and ridiculously funny.

Check the trailer out here, and read more on Nerdland below:

NERDLAND is the story of two best friends, aspiring screenwriter ELLIOT and aspiring actor JOHN, whose dreams of super-stardom have fizzled. With their 30th birthdays looming and their desperation growing, John and Elliot decide that in this 24/7, celebrity-obsessed world of over-shared navel-gazing, there are more ways to become famous — or infamous — then ever before. So why not become famous TODAY? NERDLAND is that day.

Making up for what they lack in brains and talent with abundant, witless enthusiasm, John and Elliot troll Los Angeles on a fame-grab journey, encountering and abusing friends both new and old. Navigating their hyper-stimulating landscape of consumerism gone wild, our two consumers want desperately to be consumed — and they will have their FAME, no matter what the cost.
