Last night after the Super Bowl, The Late Late Show with James Corden got a star-studded episode to follow Stephen Colbert’s somewhat lackluster post-Super Bowl installment, and Corden took the opportunity to revisit one of his more entertaining regular bits. With Anna Kendrick, Zac Efron, and Adam Devine on the show to promote their new comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Corden teamed up with the trio to run down the history of sports movies in seven minutes.

Similar to Corden’s bits with Tom Hanks and Matt Damon, where they recreated those actors’ filmographies in quick succession, this new installment runs through a number of classic sports films with Kendrick, Efron, Devine, and Corden filling a variety of roles. Although not as self-referential as the Hanks and Damon installments, it’s nevertheless fun to see the group tackle films like Bring It On, the Rocky franchise, Varsity BluesThe Blind SideKarate Kid, and Raging Bull. And those of you holding out hope for a High School Musical nod won’t be entirely disappointed.

While I’m not sure Corden has found his “groove” yet as Craig Ferguson’s replacement, he has had tremendous success solidifying a couple of bits as foundational to his iteration of the late night TV series. “Carpool Karaoke” is no doubt the most successful and most enjoyable, but these movie gags are quite a fun addition as well.
