The first trailer for Annabelle 2 has arrived via New Line Cinema. The sequel to 2014's Annabelle centers on a dollmaker and his wife who open their house to a nun and several children from a nearby shuttered orphanage, only to have them become victims to the dollmaker's titular creation.

So it sounds like this sequel is once again more of a prequel, going back to the creation of the doll itself. But as you can see in this first trailer, which is more of an announcement trailer than anything more substantial, the doll is back and just as creepy as ever. We'll chat more about it after you've taken a look.

Annabelle 2 is directed by Lights Out helmer David F. Sandberg and written by Gary Dauberman, who scripted the original and the upcoming remake of It. The film stars Miranda Otto, Anthony Lapaglia, Stephanie Sigman, and Alicia Vela-Bailey, and will be released in theaters nationwide on May 19th, 2017.

Here's the first trailer for Annabelle 2:

As you saw, Miranda Otto's character calls out the name Annabelle, presumably talking to the little girl, though the titular doll is present as well. Is this Annabelle Higgins as a child, before the horrific events that come later in her life? Hard to say at this point since we don't even know if this scene in particular is in the main setting of the story or if it's some sort of flashback or framing device. We also don't know quite what afflicts the little girl--though if you've seen Annabelle or The Conjuring, you could probably make an educated guess--but it's plain to see that it's a rather terrifying transformation that even an outstretched crucifix couldn't keep at bay.

Are you excited for a return to the creepy doll's mythology, or is it enough already? Let us know in the comments below!
