Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV) is set to direct the independent sci-fi action movie Apex.  The project, scripted by James E. Cavanaugh, is described as Predator meets Call of Duty.  A special ops unit is sent to retrieve a WMD from North Korea and ends up transported to another world where they must fight a dangerous alien race.  It's an interesting premise---sounds like it could make a nice double feature with Edge of Tomorrow.  I am curious to see what Bousman and 2511 Productions can do with an indie budget to create an alien world.

"Bousman sees Apex as 'a love letter to the sci-fi films I grew up watching with my dad, such as Alien, Predator, Enemy Mine, Tremors. But I also want it to have the more modern feel of some of the recent video games I am currently playing, like Halo and Call of Duty.' "

Bousman elaborated that he wants Apex to be a blend of 80s-style action and more realistic portrayals of warfare, such as that seen in Lone Survivor.

Bousman continued:

"This can be a balls-to-the-walls action fantasy and it's franchisable outside of the movie universe.  There is a whole world to explore with Apex."

Producers Joe Di Maio, Aaron Ray, and Cavanaugh agree and see Apex as a "transmedia property"---they hope to reveal key art and alien designs when Comic-Con arrives in two weeks.
