Things are certainly heating up for 20th Century Fox’s The Predator. The studio enlisted Shane Black to direct and co-write a new Predator movie with The Monster Squad scribe Fred Dekker a couple of years ago, but it remained to be seen when/if that project would see the light of day. However, just recently a promo poster unveiled the film’s title, and Fox set a March 2, 2018 release date for what will be a proper sequel for the franchise, not a reboot. So while Black has the Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang-esque 70s-set comedy The Nice Guys on tap for release in May, it certainly seems like The Predator is shaping up to be his next movie.

And with The Predator being a sequel and all, might we see some returning characters—one in particular? Arnold Schwarzenegger famously led the 1987 original (which also featured Black in a supporting role), but opted not to return for the 1990 follow-up Predator 2 over a salary dispute. Now, it appears, Dutch could be in for a comeback in The Predator.

Speaking with The Arnold Fans (via The Playlist), Schwarzenegger revealed that he has a lunch meeting set with Black, at which point the two will presumably discuss a possible role in The Predator:

"I haven’t talked with [Shane Black] yet but I’m going to meet with him for lunch sometime soon. Just as soon as I’m finished with [Arnold’s Sports Festival] and The Apprentice and all this stuff. But I will get together with him. If there is any news, we’ll of course let you know right away. There’s also a meeting coming up soon about Conan, about the project moving forward."

Now Schwarzenegger reprising a beloved role doesn’t always equal success—anybody remember Terminator Genisys?—but the involvement of Black is key with regards to The Predator. While Fox mined the property for Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, and also tried an unsuccessful reboot with 2010’s Predators, the involvement of Black and Dekker with this new film inspires a heck of a lot of confidence. These are incredibly talented guys, so if there’s a role in here for Schwarzenegger, I think we can rest assured it’s going to deliver.

What do you think, folks? Do you want to see Dutch return? Would a cameo suffice or would you rather see Schwarzenegger take front and center, seeking his long-deserved revenge? Sound off in the comments below.
