We previously reported that the CW’s mainstays The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and 90210 would be renewed for another season, but the number of new pick-ups might bode ill for a few of the newer series. Gossip Girl will return for a sixth and possibly final season as not only do the actors’ contracts expire next year, but as THR reports, executive producer Stephanie Savage said the sixth season felt like “an organic ending point.” It will be interesting to see how freshman series, Arrow, prevails, considering the popularity of superhero-related fare has risen to a fever pitch. Starring Stephen Amell, Arrow could fill the void left behind by Smallville. It’s probably a safe bet that The Carrie Diaries (have a look at star AnnaSophia Robb as a young Carrie Bradshaw) and Beauty and the Beast (they definitely nailed the “beauty” part with Kristin Kreuk) will find an audience, though First Cut and Cult likely have a more difficult road to renewal ahead of them.
