The CW’s Arrow has found its “Big Bad” for Season 4, and it involves another defection of sorts from Marvel to DC. After playing Algrim in Thor: The Dark World, actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje took on the role of Killer Croc in DC/WB’s upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and now actor Neal McDonough—who played Dum Dum Dugan in Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger—is joining the DC TV Universe in a big way.
The CW announced today that McDonough has signed on to play DC Comics character Damien Darhk in Season 4 of Arrow, filling the role of the upcoming season’s main adversary for Stephen Amell’s masked hero. Described as a mysterious and sophisticated villain as well as an opponent of the late Ra’s Al Ghul, Arrow’s Darhk is the leader of his own clandestine group and the “cunning foe” will prove to be one of Arrow’s greatest challenges.
McDonough not only portrayed Dum Dum Dugan in Marvel’s first Captain America film, but he reprised his role in the Marvel One-Shot Agent Carter and also on the small screen with cameos on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Agent Carter series. Marvel’s stable of characters is so large, though, that it seems unlikely Dugan will have any sort of significant role going forward, so when asked if he’d like to play the principal villain for a season of Arrow, it’s no wonder McDonough said “yes.”
Season 4 of Arrow premieres on The CW on Wednesday, October 7th at 8/7c.
