20th Century Fox has unleashed a final international trailer for Assassin’s Creed, and it’s a pretty swell piece of marketing (that, yes, is 100% real—we promise). This new trailer offers up a bevy of new footage, as it begins by outlining the motives of the Templars with Jeremy Irons’ villainous character explaining the need to track down an artifact called the “Apple of Eden.” We then see Michael Fassbender’s puzzled present day character Callum Lynch attempting to figure out what in the world is going on as he’s sent back to relive the memories of his ancestor in 15th century Spain.

The visuals on display here are absolutely dynamite, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Director Justin Kurzel showed his knack for aesthetics with Macbeth, and his cinematographer Adam Arkapaw is the person responsible for that incredible tracking shot in True Detective Season 1. Indeed, when I visited the set last year, I got to walk through the Abstergo set, which they built almost in its entirety so they could shoot scenes that continued from rooms to corridors to other rooms without having to cut.

The other thing that’s mighty present in this trailer, aside from the visuals, is the stacked cast. Not only do we have Fassbender and Irons, but also Marion Cotillard, Brendan Gleeson, Michael K. Williams, and the terrific Charlotte Rampling. Kurzel put together one hell of an ensemble, so here’s hoping the material lives up to the promise of these trailers.

Check out the new Assassin’s Creed trailer below. The film opens in theaters on December 21st.
