20th Century Fox has released a new Assassin's Creed trailer online.  Directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth), the film is an adaptation of the popular video game franchise and stars Michael Fassbender as death row inmate Callum Lynch, who is whisked away to a mysterious facility run by Abstergo. There, he enters a device called the "Animus" where he is forced to live out past memories from his 15th century Spanish ancestor Aguilar in the hopes of discovering the location of a lost but important object.

This isn't a bad trailer, but I'm not seeing anything that's really hooking me.  Keep in mind that studios have been trying to make adaptations of video games for a couple decades now, and they still haven't cracked it.  We keep waiting for the movie that will do it, but this year alone we've seen Warcraft, Ratchet & Clank, and The Angry Birds Movie all strike out.  I don't see anything in this trailer that makes me think Assassin's Creed will be the movie that breaks the trend, but I hope I'm wrong.

Check out the Assassin's Creed trailer below, and for much more on the film, check out Adam's full set visit report including 35 things to know and his on-set interviews with Fassbender and Kurzel.  The film opens December 21st and also stars Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams.
