We’ve already shared quotes from Joss Whedon’s appearance on the Empire podcast regarding Avengers: Age of Ultron story changes, deleted scenes and what happened with the cave scene, but we’ve still got another big detail to tell you about that involves Captain Marvel and Spider-Man.

I had an absolute blast with the film, but there’s no denying that Age of Ultron was a rather forceful attempt at setting up an overabundance of Phase 3 films, characters and scenarios. However, there was actually a point when Whedon considered adding even more heroes to the roster:

"I said, 'It would be great if we could just add a few more … If we could have a Captain Marvel there ...' And they talked about it. And Spider-Man, we could do that too, because Sony had approached us during the first movie about a little integration, so I would have put both of them in, but neither of the deals were made, and then they’re like, 'We’re making a Captain Marvel movie, and we’ve got Spider-Man as a property!' I was like, 'I’ve already locked my film, you fuckers. Thanks for nothing!’”

I certainly would have been pumped to see Captain Marvel and/or Spider-Man pop up in Age of Ultron, but there’s no way this version of the film would have done the characters justice. Perhaps Whedon could have successfully reworked the script if he got the OK to use them early on, but I’m glad they weren’t shoehorned in after Captain Marvel’s solo movie was confirmed and after Spider-Man officially moved over to the MCU.

What do you think? Should Spider-Man and/or Captain Marvel have been included?
