The marketing blitz for Avengers: Endgame is well underway, which means we now have the first clip from the upcoming superhero epic. In the clip, the characters hatch their scheme to acquire the Infinity Stones and undo the Thanos’ snap, but during their conversation, Rhodes (Don Cheadle) asks where Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) has been all this time. She explains that Earth isn’t the only planet that needs protecting, and, in case you didn’t know, it also has a wealth of superheroes already.

This ties back to Kevin Feige’s earlier comments that perhaps Nick Fury did try to call Captain Marvel in the past, but one way or another, she knew that there were superheroes already on the job. And to be fair to the character, this is the first time in MCU history where the entire universe has been on the line, not just Earth. If you see Captain Marvel as an intergalactic protector and not just one for Earth, her actions make some semblance of sense. That being said, it’s still difficult to square her actions of protecting other planets when there are people on Earth she cares about, so perhaps that will be more fleshed out in her future movies. It's a minor point, and ultimately not worth getting bogged down in.

Check out the Avengers: Endgame clip below. The film opens April 26th and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Bradley Cooper, and Josh Brolin.

Here’s the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
