Along with a brand new trailer for Avengers: Endgame, Disney today also released a brand new, official poster for the highly anticipated upcoming sequel. The film is a direct follow-up to last year’s Avengers: Infinity War and indeed is more of a “Part 2” to that film’s “Part 1”, which memorably ended with villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) wiping out half of the universe’s population. The snap left the original Avengers heroes remaining, along with a few other, newer MCU characters like Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Okoye (Danai Gurira). The story of Endgame finds the characters coming together to find a way to bring their friends back, and end Thanos once and for all.
This new poster is a “heroes” poster, but it’s got an interesting twist. As opposed to the Infinity War poster, which brought everyone together on the same one-sheet (except Hawkeye and Ant-Man, because they can’t get no respect), this one simply focuses on the heroes who are left standing in Thanos’ wake. The result is a striking image that harkens back to 2012’s The Avengers, as Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers make the most commanding impressions.
We’ve also got the notable addition of Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, who will make her Avengers debut following her origin story film Captain Marvel—which is in the midst of blowing up the box office. And then there’s Thanos, purple and large, looming in the background. Last we saw, he was on some planet somewhere looking gravely wounded and staring into the sunset. How will our heroes find him, and who will deliver the death blow? We’ll find out in about a month and a half.
