Surprise! Marvel Studios has released a brand new Avengers: Endgame trailer. The upcoming film follows the events of Avengers: Infinity War where Thanos (Josh Brolin) was victorious in his quest to obtain all the Infinity Stones and wipe out half the life in the universe with a snap of his Infinity Gauntlet. The result saw the dusting off many beloved heroes with original Avengers like Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Hulk, and a few others left to pick up the pieces.

Avengers: Endgame was shot back-to-back with Avengers: Infinity War and was similarly written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo.

This is a really spectacular trailer that draws upon the idea that this film is genuinely the culmination of all the Marvel Cinematic Universe films that have come before. I love that it evokes the past with footage from previous movies, namely those involving the original Avengers lineup. That's really what we were left with when all the dust settled from Infinity War (zing!), and that was perfectly deliberate. We're going to see the original Avengers team forced to reassemble one last time to save their friends.

There are plenty details of note in this trailer, namely the arrival of Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, and I cannot wait to see her interplay with Thor. Those Avengers uniforms at the end are pretty tremendous as well, and we've got confirmation here that Paul Rudd's Ant-Man will, somehow, reteam with the group after being stuck in the Quantum Realm at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Check out the new Avengers: Endgame trailer below, and click here for the trailer breakdown. The film opens April 26, 2019 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Don Cheadle, Karen Gillan, and Brie Larson.

Here's the official synopsis for Avengers: Endgame:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
