‘Avengers: Endgame’: How the New, White Uniforms Give the Avengers a Fighting Chance

     March 14, 2019

avengers-endgame-white-uniforms-explainedIf you checked out the recent Avengers: Endgame trailer, in between the black-and-white (and red-tinged) nostalgia scenes, dramatic haircuts, and meet-ups between your favorite MCU characters, you probably noticed the title team’s shiny new uniforms. While we have yet to find a Marvel Comics counterpart for these slick new get-ups, we do have a pretty good idea of just what the functional uniforms will be used for in the new movie. But it’s worth mentioning that this is the first time we’re seeing a legit team uniform for the gathered Avengers, making for a nice visual change and a solid storytelling point in one fell swoop. (Some spoilers ahead for folks who haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War and Captain Marvel.)

Originally, these new uniforms were spoiled/teased back in the fall of 2018 thanks to a leak of tie-in toys. Most folks understandably thought that we’d see the white uniforms pop up in the as-of-then untitled Avengers 4, and today’s new trailer shows that they were indeed correct. Keep that in mind for future toy leaks; they’re not all 100% accurate but hindsight does prove 20/20:

As for what exactly these new suits mean, beyond the slick change to the aesthetic of each character’s signature look and the first real team uniform, our best guess is that the Avengers who remain unsnapped will be headed into the Quantum Realm in order to mess with a Time Vortex and right the wrongs wrought by Thanos:

So once Ant-Man somehow makes his way out of the Quantum Realm (possibly by slipping into a Time Vortex and popping out into reality before he was abandoned within it?), he’ll likely reunite with the surviving Avengers (including the recently arrived Captain Marvel, and the returned Tony Stark and Nebula … who hitch a ride back to Earth, maybe?) and give the team the last piece of the puzzle they’ll need to restore order to a post-snap world. We’ll find out for sure on April 26th!
