‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Posters Unite the Heroes of the MCU

     March 26, 2018

Time to put on the blinders, folks. We’re just a few weeks out from Avengers: Infinity War, which means the Disney marketing machine is on full blast in the lead-up to one of the most-hyped entries in the long-running superhero saga. After months of silence and secrecy, recent weeks have brought a wave of new information on the latest MCU movie from Winter Soldier and Civil War helmers Joe and Anthony Russo, not to mention a brand new trailer. So, it’s officially time to avert your eyes if you want to go in clean.

Today’s new material isn’t exactly a spoilerfest — it’s a set of new posters uniting the heroes of the MCU in what must have been one of the most delightful rounds of talent negotiation in the history of cinema. The folks over at Vulture did a pretty great job reading into the details of the cast breakdown, and you better believe there was plenty of attention paid to who got to be Big Face and so on in these posters. The results are pretty much what you’d expect — with the MCU OGs getting top poster placement, the new generation of headlining heroes behind them, and supporting characters filling out the smaller spots.

The only real head-scratcher is Scarlet Witch, who gets prime placement on one poster despite only appearing as a supporting character in two films, so it’s probably a safe bet she’s got a pretty significant role in the film. Her boyfriend does have an Infinity Stone in his head, after all. The other point of interest is the continued absence of two familiar heroes — Hawkeye and Ant-Man, both of whom have been MIA from a lot of much of Infinity War’s key promo materials. Now, we know Ant-Man and the Wasp is just around the corner so that one’s not too curious, but Hawkeye is a whole other matter. The Russos have said that he’s in a “special spot” and on his own journey in the film, and from the looks of the promo materials, we definitely shouldn’t expect to see much of him.

Scripted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: Civil War), the film opens May 4, 2018, and also stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Rudd, and Tom Hiddleston. Check out the new posters below.
