If the first words you said when you woke up this morning were something to the effect of, "Great Scott! It's the future!" then you're probably a Back to the Future fan. If not, then you should know that, in the Robert Zemeckis-directed sequel Back to the Future Part II, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) take a trip to the future that lands them squarely on the date of ... October 21, 2015. So if you were confused by all of the Back to the Future talk on social media today, now you know what all the hubbub is about, bub.

We've already taken a look at what the sequel picture got right about the present, so with that in mind, we've taken to the modern convenience of the Internet to round up all the Back to the Future nods that are seemingly taking over the world today. It's a very surreal time in which we live, as a 1989 sci-fi/comedy about time traveling into a future full of fantastic gizmos and high-tech gadgets is being realized in the present because of an overwhelming need to nourish nostalgia and push new products. (Though Pepsi Perfect does sound delicious.) Check out a few of the Back to the Future trends making their way around the world today! (Heads up that the Today Show video at the end is unfortunately set to auto-play. Apologies!)

'Jaws 19' Trailer

In case you missed the parody trailer for Back to the Future Part II's in-movie film Jaws 19, here it is again:

Pepsi Perfect [Update]

Pepsi had the bright idea to develop a new bottle design based on the one seen in Back to the Future Part II, with the equally smart move to sell a limited number of these collector's items to fans. Not so smart: completely botching the release of said Pepsi Perfect bottles. Pro-tip: If you buy a Pepsi Throwback / Made with Real Sugar and close your eyes while you drink it, it'll be exactly the same experience. Or you can buy one on eBay for a hugely inflated price point.

Update: Pepsi announced via Twitter that they will re-release another limited run of the Pepsi Perfect, which costs twenty bucks a bottle, on November 3rd. Why they don't release more of them, beyond for the sake of scarcity, is lost on me.

Even the White House Is Playing Along

The current administration has invited Ahmed and his clock to the White House, so why wouldn't they fully embrace Back to the Future in all of its pro-science, nerdy goodness? In fact, they've scheduled an entire day of events for "Back to the Future Day" in which they talk to innovators across the country on topics ranging from time travel, to autonomous vehicles, to women in S.T.E.M., to understanding the human brain. Check out all their video content on the site!

Nike Auctioning Off 'Back to the Future 2' Power Lace Sneakers

Now here's a big one. Nike has introduced their immaculate realization of Nike Mags, the power-lacing pair of kicks that Marty sports when he arrives in the future in Back to the Future II. As Nike announces, there are a limited amount of these made and they will not be on sale in stores. Rather, they will be auctioned off for charity, specifically the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. That's about as good of a reason to realize such a product, and I'm sure there will be YouTube videos of the puppies in action. Then again, if you've come into any kind of windfall and feel like being astoundingly irresponsible, there have been much worse reasons to spend incredible amounts of money on footwear.

Nintendo Brings "Wild Guns" Back in Honor of 'Back to the Future 2'

Fans of Elijah Wood will remember this one especially, as this was one of the first appearances of the young character actor on screen. As Wired reports, Nintendo Europe has re-released a version of "Wild Guns", the Nintendo arcade games that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) proves to be an ace at while he waits for Griff Tannen to show up in the Cafe 80s. No word as of yet if Nintendo America will be re-releasing the game as well.
