I have yet to see Backcountry, but I'm impressed by the trailer, which is far more cinematic than most low budget indie horror films I come across these days. And having spent a fair amount of time camping in Colorado, I have an inherent fear of bears that this movie looks like it will play nicely to.  Perri, a fellow horror nut, loved the film out of TIFF, and gave it a fantastic review so my hopes are high.

Check out the Backcountry trailer below. The film was written and directed by Adam MacDonald (interview here) and stars Missy Peregrym and Jeff Roop (both of them interviewed here as well) along with Eric Balfour. It hits theaters via IFC on March 20th, 2015.

Here's the official synopsis for Backcountry:

In this terrifying and critically-acclaimed thriller, a young couple’s romantic camping trip becomes a tale of survival as they face the darkest side of nature: a man-eating bear.

Between this and a few other movies in development I'm sensing a resurgence of the killer bear genre, and it's a glorious feeling.
