Currently in its third season, Cinemax has renewed Alan Ball's violent Pennsylvanian drama Banshee for a fourth, which will air in 2016. The show seems to slowly be gaining more and more traction, as Cinemax is getting more notice as an original content provider (especially with the launch of its excellent medical drama The Knick late last year).

A press release from Cinemax says the fourth season will shoot in Pittsburgh (as opposed to around Charlotte, North Carolina where it has been for the last few years). That may be down to the fact that North Carolina's tax incentives are no longer as strong as they once were, whereas Pittsburgh is making a huge push to become a filming hub.

The fourth season will run for eight episodes, but casting is yet to be announced (which probably means more characters are going to die...)

Banshee is a great series that continues to accelerate both in its emotional plotlines as well as in its ultra violence. If you're all caught up with Season 3 so far, I posted a discussion of some of the show's latest choices, like that big thing that happened during "Tribal."

If you aren't caught up, I highly encourage you do so -- you can find my review of the first season here. The show is fun, dark, and gorgeously filmed.

Banshee stars Antony Starr, Ivana Milicevic, Lili Simmons, Trieste Kelly Dunn, Ulrich Thomsen, Hoon Lee, and Frankie Faison. It current airs on Friday nights at 10 p.m. on Cinemax.
