MGM is bringing Malcolm D. Lee (The Best ManBest Man Holiday) on board to direct the comedy sequel Barbershop 3. Deadline reports that deals for the sequel to 2002's Barbershop are coming together quickly with Cedric the Entertainer and Ice Cube in talks to return. When we reported on the status of Barbershop 3 last year, Queen Latifah, who appeared in Barbershop 2: Back in Business before starring in the spin-off film Beauty Shop, was likely to return, but there is no mention of her in today's update.

The Barbershop films fun, funny movies with heart that ride on the charisma of their stars. I hope these deals go forward swiftly since it's been more than ten years since we last set foot inside the shop, and Lee would be an excellent choice to get the boys back in business again.

Directed by Tim Story (Ride Along), the original film centered on a day in the life of a South Side Chicago barbershop after Calvin Palmer, Jr, (Cube) inherited the shop from his father. In 2002, Barbershop grossed $75 million domestic, and Barbershop 2 pulled in $65 million domestic two years later.

Ice Cube's production company, Cube Vision, will produce Barbershop 3. Cube is currently producing the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, which is set to hit theaters August 14, 2015. Cedric will premiere his new extreme barbering reality series Barber Battles Friday April 10th on the CW. Lee is set for a third Best Man film, due in theaters April 15, 2016.

With Straight Outta Compton hitting theaters this year, and Lee's next Best Man installment not due until the middle of next year, it looks like the time for Barbershop 3 to come together might finally be here!
