‘Bastards’ Trailer: Owen Wilson and Ed Helms Try to Find Their Father; Hilarity Ensues

     September 16, 2016

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for the upcoming comedy Bastards, starring Owen Wilson and Ed Helms. The film revolves around a pair of adult brothers whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father died of cancer when they were young, only to discover that this was a flat-out lie. Subsequently, the duo set out to find their real father as their mother narrows it down to a list of possible candidates.

Scripted by Justin Malen (who penned the upcoming Bad Teacher 2 and Baywatch), the film marks the directorial debut of Lawrence Sher, who has a long resume as a cinematographer that includes all three Hangover movies, Garden State, and War Dogs. The film looks like it could be funny enough, mostly hinging on the supporting performances of the characters who play the titular duo’s would-be fathers. J.K. Simmons is an especially amusing treat in this first-look trailer, but it’s also hard to ignore the film’s less-than-ideal January release date, which is normally a dumping ground for material that is not exactly up to snuff.

Regardless, check out the first Bastards trailer below and see for yourself. The film also stars Terry Bradshaw, Katt Williams, June Squibb, Kate Aselton, and Ving Rhames and opens in theaters on January 27, 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis for Bastards:

Helms and Wilson play Peter and Kyle Reynolds, two brothers whose eccentric mother (Glenn Close) raised them to believe their father had died when they were young. When they discover this to be a lie, they set out to find their real father, learning more about their mother than they probably ever wanted to know.
