If the dark, gritty, and super-serious nature of recent superhero flicks have gotten you down, then this new Batman movie that harkens back to the campy style of the 60s series starring Adam West, Burt Ward, and Julie Newmar should perk you right up! An animated film from DC Comics and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, titled Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, reunites the trio of actors as they voice the roles of Batman, Robin, and Catwoman, respectively. The best news of all is that it’s due out on home video this fall!
As a newly released teaser trailer shows, West and Ward fall right back into form as Batman and Robin, whose costumes, coloration, and context are right at home with the classic 60s series. While Catwoman doesn’t make an appearance in this trailer, she’ll certainly be causing havoc in the movie itself, alongside Joker, the Riddler, and Penguin.
Check out the tongue-in-cheek teaser trailer below (via EW):
If you’re a fan of the 60s series, this trailer should hit a sweet spot. It’s great hearing the familiar voices in roles they made famous, but it’s even better seeing the characters in action, rescuing themselves from a ridiculous scheme while providing equally ridiculous one-liners to go along with it. For me, this is a much-desired and unexpected take on the Batman, one that plays up the colorful, fun side of cartoons while also staying true to the character’s rich mythology. It’s a welcome visit to the other end of the spectrum that will hopefully balance out the “dark and gritty” with some “fun and witty.”
I, for one, will be looking forward to seeing Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders, from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment, when it’s released for Digital HD on October 11th and Blu-Ray on November 1st.
