“The favorite thing that people ask me is, ‘Does it seem possible for Batman and Superman to fight? Batman’s so outmatched,’” says Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. “And I go, ‘That’s the movie. Trust me, they fight in the movie, and they fight good.’” How good, exactly? Take a look at these 11 new photos from the film, including two covers from EW below.
The cast of the film is on full display. In one corner is Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight dressed in full mecha-suit. In the other is Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel, who, the actor says, is struggling with “the enormous power that he has” and accepting the fact that maybe he cannot save everyone, maybe he cannot do everything.
Elsewhere, we see Jeremy Irons as Alfred, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince (a.k.a. Wonder Woman), Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, who’s captivated by a piece of kryptonite. Other than his curly locks and Zuckerberg-ian persona, EW states this version of the Superman villain has been “deeply tormented and emotionally scarred by his father.” Going into further detail, Snyder says, “This is the Lex who was abused and no God ever rescued him. And so, to get revenge on that God, you know — God kneels, right? Bends to my will.” EW’s story further reveals that Luthor “orchestrates a mass murder aimed at turning the two heavy hitters against each other.”
Another intriguing scene involves what lies at the center of the Batcave: a case housing the super-suit of Robin covered in writing from Joker. Fans have speculated that this might belong to the “Boy Wonder,” but EW confirms its inclusion in this film.
Batman v Superman, which also features Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, and Scoot McNairy, will debut in theaters on March 25th.
