First ‘Batwoman’ Teaser Trailer Reveals a Crimson Caped Crusader

     May 8, 2019

With Gotham coming to a close, it’s time for a new caped crusader to rise — although this one has a flash of crimson under her cape as well as on top of her head. After introducing Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) in the Arrowverse crossover “Elseworlds,” The CW greenlighted a pilot for Bruce Wayne’s cousin to have her own series. Batwoman now has a new teaser trailer to remind us that it’s still happening, though it doesn’t reveal much beyond that nudge.

As I wrote when the news of the pilot pickup was announced, the pilot will certainly give us more insight into the character of Kane, and her alter-ego Batwoman, because we certainly didn’t get much of a sense of her from “Elseworlds.” The series, should it move past the pilot stage, is led by showrunner and writer Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries), and executive produced by (of course) Greg Berlanti. And like with the Flash and Arrow, director David Nutter (Game of Thrones) will helm the pilot.

As Arrow is wrapping up next year and other signature CW superhero series are winding down, it could be time for Batwoman to deliver some fresh storytelling to the network. Of note, the series will be the first live-action superhero show on the CW to be led by a gay character and an out actress playing her. It’s also clear the network has no plans to ramp down its superhero TV show production anytime soon.

Check out the teaser below:

Here’s the official synopsis for Batwoman:

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane [Rose] soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
