Relativity Studios has released the first Before I Wake trailer for Oculus director Mike Flanagan’s new horror film. The supernatural thriller stars Kate Bosworth and Thomas Jane as a couple who, after losing their son, opt to take in an 8-year-old boy named Cody. What they don’t know, however, is that when Cody sleeps, his dreams manifest into reality to those in close proximity. This is great when he dreams about Bosworth and Jane’s dead son, but less great when he has nightmares of demons and creepy ghost children.

I thought Flanagan’s 2014 film Oculus was a really smart, inventive twist on the horror genre, so I’m definitely game to check out his follow-up. Based on this debut trailer, Before I Sleep looks to be another claustrophobic thriller that highlights Flanagan's strong use of visuals to carry out the interesting story nugget.

Check out the Before I Wake trailer below, via the film’s official Twitter. The film also stars Annabeth Gish, Dash Mihok, and Jacob Tremblay. Before I Wake opens in theaters on May 8th.
