Wii Sports

Wii Sports is a game that needs very little introduction. It’s one of the best-selling video games of all time and came bundled with the Nintendo Wii. As the name conveys, Wii Sports is about more than just golf. The game includes five different sports to play: tennis, baseball, bowling, golf, and boxing. Each of the sports are a ton of fun, but none felt quite as intense and competitive as golf. Using motion controls to hit the perfect shots took a lot of finesse and made clutch puts and hole-in-ones all the more satisfying. While Wii Sports golf can be fun alone, the best way to play is with friends or family. If you’re a fan of the game, be sure to check out the sequel, Wii Sports Resort, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports.

Nice Shot! Is the perfect golf game for any first-person shooter fan. The game ditches the traditional golf clubs and replaces them with “sand machine guns,” “4 iron sights,” and “putting revolvers.” There are 10 guns to use and four 18-hole courses to play on. You can play through the single-player campaign or grab some friends for a multiplayer face-off. The game, unfortunately, lacks Steam Workshop support which hurts its replayability, but for an inexpensive indie golf game, Nice Shot! offers plenty of fun.

Although many don’t realize it, Mario Golf is one of the longest-running Mario series. In fact, Mario first took to the sport in the 1984 NES game, Golf. That’s a full year before Super Mario Bros. was released! Fast forward almost 40 years later, and Mario is still golfing, with his most recent appearance coming in 2021’s Mario Golf: Super Rush for the Nintendo Switch. Although there are many games in the series, Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour is a standout that’s perfect for couch multiplayer. It was released in 2003 for the Nintendo GameCube but the game feels just as fun to play almost 20 years later. Toadstool Tour is chock full of charm and the courses are a blast to play through. All your favorite Mario characters are available to play as, and four secret characters can be unlocked. The gameplay is solid, and there are several different game modes to try out. Toadstool Tour also gives the characters a ton of personality. Check out some of the over-the-top character animations here.

What the Golf?

What the Golf? is probably the most bizarre game on this list. It is without a doubt, a golf game, yet not a golf game at the same time. Yes, you’ll be hitting some golf balls, but you’ll also be throwing people, cars, and more around the game’s 500 levels. What the Golf is a game that needs to be played to be understood. Whether you’re playing alone or with a friend, you’ll have a great time with this unique “golf” game.
