It’s March, which means we’re not only getting the NCAA’s annual March Madness tournament, but also the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We decided to combine the two into one gigantic showdown between 64 movie superheroes, and we want you to decide which superhero is the best of all time.

First, a few disclaimers:

1) These are movie superheroes only. That’s why you’re not going to see Charlie Cox’s Daredevil among the contenders. Adam West qualifies because of 1966’s Batman: The Movie.

2) This is an evaluation of the character in the movie, not the overall movie or the character removed from their cinematic depiction. In other words, we’re not deciding if Thor is a better movie than X-Men. We’re deciding if Chris Hemsworth’s performance as Thor is better than Anna Paquin’s performance as Rogue.

3) This isn’t “Which character would win in a fight?” While that’s a fun argument for another time, this is more about character performance than pitting superpowers against each other.

4) A character qualifies as a “superhero” if they’re a “good guy” by the end of a movie. So Mystique, in the rebooted X-Men movies, is a good guy, although just barely.

And that’s it! Feel free to make your case for who you voted for in the comments section and try to get others to see it your way. Votes are due by March 6th at 10pm EST. Round 2 begins March 7th.
