Showtime has announced that they have picked up a seventh season of their critically acclaimed drama series, Billions.

Billions is currently airing its sixth season on Showtime, which premiered on January 23. The current season follows the fallout of Michael Prince (played by Corey Stoll, who was moved from a guest character to a recurring one), filling the power vacuum left behind after the cutthroat hedge-fund manager Bobby Axelrod (Damian Lewis) escaped prosecution and fled the country at the end of the fifth season finale. (Lewis announced shortly after the airing of the finale he would be officially departing the series.)

The series' first five seasons followed the rivalry of United States Attorney Chuck Rhoades (played by Paul Giamatti) and Axelrod, as Rhoades attempts to prosecute the wealthy and dirty hedge-fund manager. Now with Prince as a key player, the board has changed and players begin to make their moves in the aftermath of Axe's departure, which means Rhoades will need to go back to the drawing board and formulate an even keener and more sophisticated plan of attack than before. Since Season 6 is still airing, there is no release window for the seventh season.

In season six of BILLIONS, the dust of season five clears to reveal a world that has evolved. With Axe (Damian Lewis) gone and Michael Prince (Stoll) assuming his place, Chuck (Giamatti) must develop a new strategy that is keener and more sophisticated than before. All the players, from Wags (David Costabile) to Wendy (Siff), from Taylor (Asia Kate Dillon) to Sacker (Condola Rashad), and of course Senior (Jeffrey DeMunn), must sharpen their weapons and look for new alliances in order to survive. Daniel Breaker, who stars as Scooter, the brilliant and locked-down Chief of Staff for Prince, has been upped to series regular. The ground is ever shifting and the stakes absolute. New king, new war, new rules.
