Writer/director Mike Binder once again teams up with his The Upside of Anger star Kevin Costner for Black or White (retitled from Black and White), a film that seems sort of middle-of-the-road.  But actually that's a quality I can legitimately get behind considering the fact that this is clearly a populist piece of entertainment with great performers and its heart in the right place.  This trailer pretty much is exactly what you think it will be, and there's nothing wrong with that.  Am I counting the days until release?  No.  Would I probably enjoy this if I saw it?  Yes.

Black or White also stars Octavia Spencer, Gillian Jacobs, Anthony Mackie, Jillian Estell, and Jennifer Ehle.  The film hits iPic Theaters for a week starting on December 3rd before it commences its wide theatrical release on January 30th, 2015.  Hit the jump for the Black or White trailer.

Here's the official synopsis for Black or White:

BLACK OR WHITE is the story of a grandfather (Academy Award® winner Kevin Costner) who is suddenly left to care for his beloved granddaughter. When the little girl’s paternal grandmother (Academy Award® nominee Octavia Spencer) seeks custody, a legal battle ensues that forces the families to confront their true feelings on race, forgiveness and understanding. Anchored by an all-star cast and based on real events, the movie is a look at two seemingly different worlds, in which nothing is as simple as black or white.
