When Blade Runner 2 rolls around, it’ll certainly be a high profile sequel, but director Denis Villeneuve is keeping it “all in the family” when it comes to the behind-the-scenes team. When Villeneuve first signed on we learned he was bringing his Prisoners and Sicario cinematographer Roger Deakins into the fold, marking an unbelievably exciting prospect for one of the best directors of photography working today. And now we’ve learned that Villeneuve is adding another Sicario veteran to his team: composer Jóhann Jóhannsson.

The composer, who landed Oscar nominations for his work on Sicario and The Theory of Everything, revealed on Icelandic radio station RUV (via The Playlist) that he will indeed be composing the score for the untitled Blade Runner sequel. This is mighty exciting news, as Jóhannsson’s haunting work on Sicario was nothing short of astounding, and he’s quickly become one of the most exciting composers working today. He first reunites with Villeneuve on the sci-fi film Arrival, which opens in theaters this fall and stars Amy Adams in what’s essentially a first contact story as told through Villeneuve’s unique lens.

Story details for Blade Runner 2 are non-existent at the moment, but the potential is huge. Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Rick Deckard and Ryan Gosling co-stars, with a hefty ensemble that also includes Robin WrightAna de ArmasSylvia HoeksCarla JuriMackenzie DavisBarkhad AbdiDavid DastmalchianHiam AbbassLennie James, and Dave Bautista. The final piece of the casting puzzle fell into place last week when Oscar-winner Jared Leto was added in what’s said to be a key role.

With an October 6, 2017 release date, we’ve still got some time to wait before we learn much of anything about Blade Runner 2, but honestly with this cast, behind-the-scenes team, and director, I’m already sold. Put this in front of my eyeballs now, please.
