In December, Latino Review reported that there were five actresses in contention for the lead female role of The Green Lantern: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and Jennifer Garner.  Now Heat Vision is reporting that the list has been narrowed down to one, as Gossip Girl's Blake Lively has been chosen as Ryan Reynold's leading lady for the 2011 superhero film.  Lively will play Carol Ferris, who runs her father's aerospace company and becomes smitten with test pilot and future superhero Hal Jordan (Reynolds) after hiring him.

The role was written for an older female; Lively is currently only 22, which makes her eleven years younger than Reynolds.  But Lively reportedly impressed the studio and filmmakers, who liked her work in The Town, in her audition.  She does seem a bit young to be running a company, but it is probably more crucial that Lively can hold her own against the wittily sarcastic Reynolds.

The Green Lantern, as directed by Martin Campbell, is targeting a June 17, 2011 release.
