April Box Office Predictions: Will There Be a Breakout Hit?

     March 31, 2016

Looking back at March, most films performed in the ballpark of their projections, with the notable exceptions of Zootopia, which is poised to outperform even the highest of expectations, and The Brothers Grimsby, which became Sasha Baron Cohen’s lowest grossing solo outing by a wide margin.

Last year, Furious 7 broke the opening weekend record for April with $147.1 million, and went on to dominate the next three weekends, ending its run with $353.0 million. Because there isn’t a film that looks poised to gross remotely in that ballpark, this April looks likely to come in under last year’s frame. However, The Jungle Book, The Boss, and The Huntsman Winter’s War may bring in solid returns.
