With an in-depth look at a campaign mission, a multiplayer beta, numerous trailers, and updates for the game, Call of Duty: Vanguard has finally revealed the first look at the fan-favorite Zombies mode to the latest entry in the long-running FPS franchise. Set to Chris Avantgarde's remix of "Bury a Friend" by Billie Eilish, the trailer gives fans a look at what to expect from the mode, including new characters as well as returning abilities and locations.

The trailer begins with a cutscene of a Nazi officer named Von List watches as the city he occupies falls around him, he is called by an occult relic, claiming that the officer will be the "instrument of his revenge." By grabbing the artifact, an eclipse forms in the sky as the undead fill the world. The first bit of gameplay shown is the Operators you will be able to choose from in multiplayer traversing the destroyed streets of the multiplayer map, "Red Star" set in Stalingrad as the voice that spoke to Von List says that we have "allies from beyond this mortal realm."

The occult theming continues as the players pick up items that speak, eventually revealed to be the equivalent of the Field Upgrades players got to use in last year's Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. While in Stalingrad, the characters step through a series of red portals, taking them to locations around the world, including the roof of the "Hotel Royal" multiplayer map and most notably the returning "Shi No Numa" one of the earliest maps in the mode history, debuting as the third map in 2008's Call of Duty: World at War. The trailer ends with Von List summoning a pile of corpses back to life with the power of the artifact as the being which spoke to him enters our reality: a towering demon that says, "A new chapter of warfare is about to begin."

The Zombies mode of Vanguard is being developed by Treyarch, the developers that created the Zombies mode back in World at War and are behind the Black Ops series including last year's Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The story of Vanguard's Zombies mode will continue the Dark Aether story that began in Cold War and will act as a prequel to the events that occurred in that game. While Treyarch is behind its development, the aesthetic and theming present is very much in line with Sledgehammer Games' previous attempt with the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: WW2 back in 2018.

Vanguard is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and will include a fully-fledged campaign following a team of international soldiers as they team up to battle a secret group of Germans attempting to revive the Reich as well as the series' cornerstone multiplayer mode which will have 20 maps at launch. A revamped version of the popular Battle Royale mode Warzone will also arrive with the game's release with a brand new map set in the Pacific. The game is being published by Activision, which is still facing a lawsuit from the state of California against Activision-Blizzard for alleged harassment, a toxic work environment, and pay discrimination, among other things.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on November 5. You can watch the brand new Zombies reveal trailer, as well as get your first look at the mode in action below:
