IFC Films has released a new Camp X-Ray trailer online. The film stars Kristen Stewart as a young private stationed at Guantanamo Bay, and revolves around the complex relationship that develops between her and a foreign detainee, played by A Separation star Peyman Maadi. I’m glad to see Stewart using Twilight and Snow White and the Huntsman as a springboard to do a collection of more indie material, which also includes Clouds of Sils Maria and Still Alice. Adam saw Camp X-Ray at Sundance, and while he said it’s a bit of a mixed bag, he praised Stewart’s performance, and I’m interested to see what she did with this material.
Hit the jump to check out the new Camp X-Ray trailer. The film also stars Lane Garrison, John Carrol Lynch, and Cory Michael Smith. Camp X-Ray opens in theaters and VOD on October 17th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Camp X-Ray:
A young woman joins the military to be part of something bigger than herself and her small town roots. But she ends up as a new guard at Guantanamo Bay instead, where her mission is far from black and white. Surrounded by hostile jihadists and aggressive squadmates, she strikes up an unusual friendship with one of the detainees. A story of two people, on opposite sides of a war, struggling to find their way through the ethical quagmire of Guantanamo Bay. And in the process, they form an unlikely bond that changes them both.
