Sony Pictures has released a pair of swell debut posters for director Paul Greengrass’ (The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) drama about the Somali pirate kidnapping, Captain Phillips.  The film stars Tom Hanks as real life ship captain Richard Phillips who allowed himself to be taken hostage by Somali pirates in 2009 in exchange for the safety of his crew.  The film’s first trailer was excellent, and Sony clearly has awards hopes for the prestige pic—which also promises to be an intense, crowd-pleasing thriller.  It’s been a while since Hanks has led a straight drama on his own, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing his performance in this under the direction of Greengrass.

Hit the jump to take a look at the impressive posters.  The film also stars Catherine Keener and Max MartiniCaptain Phillips is likely to premiere at the 2013 Venice Film Festival and opens in theaters on October 11th.
