Pixar’s most merchandiseable franchise, Cars, is set to return to theaters on June 24.  A couple of weeks ago we showed you a pair of posters for Cars 2.  Before that we showed you the first trailer and a plethora of images from the much-anticipated sequel.  And today, Pixar has released two new images that hint at the international plot.Cars 2 features the voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, and Jason Isaacs.  Hit the jump for the new images and more information. The first picture  shows Mater, the British sportscar Finn McMissile, and Lightning McQueen cruising around what appears to be a neon-fueled Tokyo.  The crowded urban scene is a major departure from the comparatively stark landscapes of Radiator Springs and will probably look even more impressive in IMAX 3D.Via Pixar Blog.  Click for high resolution.cars-2-image-02The second image once again features Larry the Cable Guy’s Mater and Finn McMissile as well as newcomer Holley Shiftwell.  Presumably, the three of them are flying first class to some automotive-related destination and/or a race.Via the Herald Sun by way of Pixar Times:cars-2-image-01

Star racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and the incomparable tow truck Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) take their friendship to exciting new places in Cars 2 when they head overseas to compete in the first-ever World Grand Prix to determine the world’s fastest car. But the road to the championship is filled with plenty of potholes, detours and hilarious surprises when Mater gets caught up in an intriguing adventure of his own: international espionage.  Torn between assisting Lightning McQueen in the high-profile race and towing the line in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-packed journey leads him on an explosive chase through the streets of Japan and Europe, trailed by his friends and watched by the whole world.  Adding to the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast that includes secret agents, menacing villains and international racing competitors.
