What combines Channing Tatum, ‘80s Romanian cop shows, and the exciting film company A24? A new action-comedy series called Iron Fisting. Have we sold you already?

To be clear, this is not a porn parody of Marvel’s Iron Fist Netflix series. The Magic Mike star is producing Iron Fisting, which was created by writers Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka (both from Animal Practice), and will be directed by Rhys Thomas (Saturday Night Live). The series will be done in the style of a fake Romanian cop show from the 1980s, and will be dubbed in English. It’s appropriately billed as “the greatest ‘80s Romanian cop show ever.”

The official logline reads:

Iron Fisting follows the exploits of two mismatched cops as they seek to protect Communism and comrades from the evils of Capitalism.

According to Deadline, the Miami Vice-inspired series will be produced and fully financed by A24 Films, the same company that featured the Oscar-winning Room and Ex Machina, the farting corpse movie Swiss Army Man, and horror hit The Witch. Production will kick off this September in Eastern Europe, while A24 shops the project around to other networks.

Casting hasn't happened yet, but Deadline, EW, and the show's official Twitter page revealed concept imagery.

In what is one of the best statements to accompany a release, Tatum’s Free Association, through which he’s producing Iron Fisting, said in a statement, “People are constantly asking us ‘when are you guys going to make a 1980’s era Romanian buddy cop show already…’ Well, you’re welcome world. Check back soon.”

Free Association is also in the midst of pre-production on Steven Spielberg’s NASCAR heist movie Logan Lucky with Daniel Craig, the sequel to 22 Jump Street (hopefully called 23 Jump Street), the live Magic Mike show in Las Vegas, and Fox’s Marvel movie Gambit (which was pushed to an undetermined release date).
