I’m a total sucker for all the cutesy learning scenes and puppy petting in the Chappie trailers, but now is the time to prove that the movie is more than a slick, futuristic concept and has some serious depth to it, and these new TV spots continue to nudge the film's marketing campaign in that direction. The more the promos delve into the effects Chappie has on the world around him, the more I suspect the film will be a step up from Elysium and more in line with the far more character-driven District 9 instead.

You can check out the brand new Chappie TV spots for yourself below. The film stars Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er, Jose Pablo Cantillo, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman, and is set to make its way into theaters on March 6th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Chappie:

Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy.  Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man.  But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
