Charlie’s Angels is coming back by way of a new reboot, and hopefully Destiny’s Child will reunite to record “Independent Woman, Part III.” But even if that doesn’t happen, the film project is trudging along with a new screenwriter. Evan Spiliotopoulos, the man who penned Hercules starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is attached to write the script for director Elizabeth Banks.

THR was the first to reveal the news of Spiliotopoulos, who has some high-profile projects coming down the pipeline. Though it looks borderline ridiculous, The Huntsman Winter's War, which he also scripted, is drawing a lot of attention, while he penned the live-action Beauty and the Beast for Disney and worked on a treatment for Wanted 2. Universal wants to do a sequel to the Angeline Jolie-James McAvoy actioner so bad that word is they were willing to back Jolie’s directorial effort By the Sea in the hopes it might convince her to sign on. The jury is still out on that one, but at least Spiliotopoulos will be kept busy.

Following her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2, Banks is coming back to helm the aca-awesome franchise’s third installment and now this. She told THR earlier in the year about Charlie’s Angels:

"The original ethos of women who graduated from the police academy, and then were given the jobs of crossing guard and meter maid, I feel like that's still very real in the world right now."

Years after the success of the original TV series, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu came together for two film versions of this team of detectives/secret agents/martial arts masters for hire. The first had a healthy mix of humor and action, while the latter was as effective as Shia LaBeouf monkey-swinging through the jungle in Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Let’s see how these ladies now adapt to the post-Snowden, Internet-obsessed world.
