In the weeks prior to the May 6 release of Thor, Chris Hemsworth became the lead contender to play the huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman. Encouraged by his earning power (nearly $300 million worldwide for Thor in two weeks), Deadline reports Universal has officially signed Hemsworth for the role. Kristen Stewart is on board as Snow White. Charlize Theron will play the evil queen, and Sam Claflin is set as the prince. Rupert Sanders will direct Snow White and the Huntsman from a script by Evan Daugherty. This Snow White is scheduled for release on December 21, 2012, notably six months after the release of competing fairy tale The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.

Hemsworth has had two films in the can for awhile that should see release in the coming year. The Cabin in the Woods is scheduled for October 28; the Red Dawn remake doesn't have a date yet. Hemsworth is currently filming The Avengers.
