A movie based on LEGOs probably shouldn't have worked in the first place, so you'd imagine that a sequel to a movie based on LEGOs wouldn't stand a chance. And yet here we are, it's 2019, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are miracle workers, and The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part is an unadulterated delight. The film picks up five years after The LEGO Movie and everything is decidedly not awesome in Bricksburg. LEGO DUPLO from the great beyond have invaded—led by Queen Watevra Wa'Nabi (Tiffany Haddish) and her incredibly named henchman General Mayhem (Stephanie Beatriz)—and Emmet (Chris Pratt), Lucy (Elizabeth Banks), Batman (Will Arnett), Metalbeard (Nick Offerman), Benny (Charlie Day), and Unikitty (Alison Brie) will have to travel to the furthest reaches of the house galaxy to stop it. Mike Mitchell and Trisha Gum direct from a script by Lord and Miller.

Before The Lego Movie 2 hit theaters, I sat down with Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks to talk about the film. We also discussed how expectations changed between the first movie and this one, and why they think the idea that everything is not awesome all the time is important for young audiences to learn.

Check out what they had to say in the player above. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part lands in theaters on February 8.

Here is the official synopsis for The Lego Movie 2:

The much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed, global box office phenomenon that started it all, “The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part,” reunites the heroes of Bricksburg in an all new action-packed adventure to save their beloved city. It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat: LEGO DUPLO® invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild.

The battle to defeat them and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds, including a strange galaxy where everything is a musical. It will test their courage, creativity and Master Building skills, and reveal just how special they really are.
