While The Fighter director David O. Russellâs latest feature Silver Linings Playbook heads into awards season as an early frontrunner, the filmmaker is currently busy firming things up for his next feature. Previously referred to as American Bullshit, the film is based on a real-life undercover sting operation set up in the 1980s by a con artist working for the FBI who rooted out corruption in Congress. Thereâs been a bit of confusion regarding whoâs playing what role, with Jeremy Renner recently reported as replacing Christian Bale in the film, but today the producers have announced that Renner, Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams will all be starring in the pic.Hit the jump for the details regarding which characters the actors will be playing.Bale is now back onboard the project as the con artist, while Adams will play his mistress/partner in crime. Theyâll be teaming up with an out of control federal agent played by Cooper, with Renner set as the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden. Thatâs one hell of a cast, and I canât wait to see what Russell will turn out given the crazy material. Russell wrote the script with Eric Warren Singer, based on Singerâs original screenplay. Production is set to begin in mid-February.Read the full press release below:
(LOS ANGELES, CA) OCTOBER 5, 2012 â Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, and Amy Adams will be joined by Christian Bale in David O. Russell's ensemble drama. Russell's penning the filmâs screenplay with Eric Warren Singer, based on Singerâs original script.
The upcoming film marks the directorâs first time working with Renner (two-time Academy Award nominee), and his second collaborations with Bale (Academy Award winner for Best Supporting Actor for âThe Fighterâ), Adams (three-time Academy Award nominee including âThe Fighterâ) and Cooper (âSilver Linings Playbookâ).  David O. Russell¹s acclaimed âSilver Linings Playbookâ garnered the Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Atlas Entertainment¹s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle will produce alongside Annapurna Picturesâ Megan Ellison and Ted Schipper. Jon Gordon, who most recently produced "Silver Linings Playbook," will also serve as an executive producer on the project alongside Bradley Cooper and Eric Warren Singer.  Annapurna Pictures is fully financing the film, tentatively set for release in late 2013. Columbia Pictures will handle US Distribution.

The Untitled David O. Russell Project is based on the true story of a notorious financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams), who were forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters, and politicians.  At the epicenter of the entire tale, is the passionate and volatile leader of the New Jersey state assembly (Renner) who is also the local hero and mayor of impoverished Camden.
Panorama Media has sold the film internationally, which includes a multi territorial deal with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions. Production will begin mid-February on the East Coast.
