Director Nicolas Winding Refn is currently receiving rave reviews for his latest film Drive, which just played unbelievably well at the Los Angeles Film Festival (our own Ramses calls it one of the best films of the year). While at the festival, he was asked about his version of Wonder Woman that heâs been trying to get off the ground for a couple of years now. When talking about the superhero flick, he added that Christina Hendricksâwho has a supporting role in Driveâwould be his top choice for the titular role (via Vulture): âIf I get to do it, sheâs going to be it.âWhile no Wonder Woman film is currently in development at Warner Bros., Refn is certainly building up quite the resume, so he may just get the chance to take on the character sometime down the road. And Hendricks is certainly up for it, as she told Rachel Ray last year, âIâve been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life.â Refn is currently looking to make the tentpole remake of Loganâs Run his next film, with Ryan Gosling set to star. Hit the jump to read some of Refnâs previous thoughts about his take on Wonder Woman. After David E. Kelleyâs television version of Wonder Woman that thankfully never made it to series, itâs probably safe to say that the characterâs in a severe need for a reboot. Last year, Refn talked a bit about his adaptation (via The Playlist):
"I guess one of the aims I am having, but at the very early stage, I always wanted to do Wonder Woman as a feature filmâ¦I would say that Wonder Woman is probably something that, to me, would be not just a satisfaction, but almost a [catharsis], and I was born to make it."
I think Hendricks is inspired casting. Sheâs strong and carries an air of independence, not to mention the fact that sheâs a fantastic actress. While weâre probably a ways off from even knowing if Refnâs version is a possibility, it certainly doesnât hurt that his first big-budget project, Loganâs Run, is set up at Warner Bros.
