Director Nicolas Winding Refn is currently receiving rave reviews for his latest film Drive, which just played unbelievably well at the Los Angeles Film Festival (our own Ramses calls it one of the best films of the year). While at the festival, he was asked about his version of Wonder Woman that he’s been trying to get off the ground for a couple of years now. When talking about the superhero flick, he added that Christina Hendricks—who has a supporting role in Drive—would be his top choice for the titular role (via Vulture): “If I get to do it, she’s going to be it.”While no Wonder Woman film is currently in development at Warner Bros., Refn is certainly building up quite the resume, so he may just get the chance to take on the character sometime down the road. And Hendricks is certainly up for it, as she told Rachel Ray last year, “I’ve been wanting to wear that outfit my whole life.” Refn is currently looking to make the tentpole remake of Logan’s Run his next film, with Ryan Gosling set to star. Hit the jump to read some of Refn’s previous thoughts about his take on Wonder Woman.wonder-woman-imageAfter David E. Kelley’s television version of Wonder Woman that thankfully never made it to series, it’s probably safe to say that the character’s in a severe need for a reboot. Last year, Refn talked a bit about his adaptation (via The Playlist):

"I guess one of the aims I am having, but at the very early stage, I always wanted to do Wonder Woman as a feature film…I would say that Wonder Woman is probably something that, to me, would be not just a satisfaction, but almost a [catharsis], and I was born to make it."

I think Hendricks is inspired casting. She’s strong and carries an air of independence, not to mention the fact that she’s a fantastic actress. While we’re probably a ways off from even knowing if Refn’s version is a possibility, it certainly doesn’t hurt that his first big-budget project, Logan’s Run, is set up at Warner Bros.
